CFF: Art for city

open call Subscribe

Culture for Future, in collaboration with Fuchs and the Art for the City program, is announcing an open call for artistic research projects for the Štvanice Island location. The aim of the research will be to present the results in the form of a temporary installation on the roof or in the vicinity of the Fuchs2 club.

The open call is intended for art and research projects that will examine environmental phenomena, impacts, and topics such as pollution (the island is crossed by Prague's main highway), water, transport, and urban wilderness at the specific location of Štvanice Island. Participating teams can also reflect on the Štvanice area as a center of grassroots initiatives—a place for the skateboarding community, underground club culture, and independent theater—which are under constant threat from new development projects, commercial plans, and Olympic villages, which could destroy the unique genius loci. Projects should be developed within an interdisciplinary team through a process of consultation on a selected topic, data collection, and deeper understanding of the issue with the help of experts. Based on their research, the three selected teams will then create a proposal for a temporary installation reflecting local environmental issues.

Both pairs and larger teams can apply for the open call. The topics listed in the introduction to the call are only suggestions; teams can choose any other topic as long as it meets the call requirements. Once the topic has been defined, which should be clear from the application, we can put applicants in touch with experts if they do not already have experts or consultants represented in their team.

Details for the research of selected teams and subsequent implementation:

The selected teams will submit the results of their research, on the basis of which they will present a proposal for the implementation of a work of art or pop-up exhibition (either on the roof of Fuchs or in its vicinity). The maximum budget for the implementation of the winning work, which will be provided by the winning team, is CZK 100,000.

The format of the research presentation should clearly show the case study(ies) and the starting points, intentions, and goals of the project. The results of the selected teams' research should be presented in the form of an art installation on the roof of the Fuchs2 cultural center or in its vicinity. The roof is not accessible to the public, so if a team decides to use it, they must propose a sufficiently striking intervention – most people pass by Fuchs in their cars. In the vicinity of the club (terraces, forecourt), the form of intervention may be less striking, although it is still a place where people tend to pass through rather than gather. The location, method of anchoring, load, and other technical details of the project should be consulted in advance with a representative of F2. The building has specific limitations in this regard.

Culture for Future

CFF is a platform of the ARCHY+ space that supports reflection on the climate crisis and various environmental issues in art. We offer comprehensive support to the artistic community, from theater to film to music: connecting them with experts on environmental issues and communication, providing relevant information and resources, and creating new opportunities for creativity in the form of open calls. Every year, we organize an open or closed call for artistic interventions at the Fuchs2 music club. In the cultural sphere, we also collaborate with other established organizations and events, bringing environmental topics into their programs.

FuturUM 2026 (Art for the City)

The Art for the City program is a form of systematic support for contemporary art in public spaces by the City of Prague. The program provides financial support for the acquisition of works of art for public spaces, publishes open calls for temporary works of art in cooperation with partner municipal organizations, organizes exhibitions mapping the history and present of art in public spaces, and educates through thematic conferences.

This year, the Art for the City program aims to introduce the public to the connection between science and art in Prague's public space. Through installations, performances, and interactive elements, it seeks to open a dialogue between experts and the public, inspire new perspectives on scientific topics, and transform the city into a living gallery of knowledge. The initiative aims to promote interdisciplinary cooperation and raise awareness of the importance of science and research in everyday life and to understand the cycles of the urban environment in all its contrasts.

Fuchs2

Fuchs2 has a rich history dating back to the early 1930s, when architect Josef Fuchs designed it as a functionalist café.

The building was closely linked to the famous Štvanice Stadium, where Czechoslovak hockey players won numerous medals over the years. At the end of the 1980s, the building was converted into a disco, which in its heyday was called "Face2Face." While the stadium was demolished in 2011 and the disco closed permanently at the same time, since December 2018 the space has been revived under the name Fuchs2 as a safe haven for alternative culture. For the past few years, it has also been providing a roof for temporary art installations.
